What we do

Our aim is simple: to make it easy for anyone to check whether a vehicle is roadworthy and to understand the systems — insurance, MOT and tax — that determine whether a car is legal to drive. When you enter a registration number, we retrieve live MOT data from the official DVSA MOT service and present it clearly, alongside plain-English guidance on insurance status, third-party checks and the law.

Why we built it

Information about insurance databases, MOT history and driving-without-insurance penalties is scattered across official sites and often written in dense, technical language. We bring the practical parts together in one place, with straightforward guides that answer the questions drivers actually search for.

Our sources

MOT and vehicle data is drawn from the DVSA MOT service. Insurance records referenced in our guides relate to the Motor Insurance Database, which is maintained by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB). Where we discuss the law and penalties, we base our guidance on published UK government information. We are an independent service and are not affiliated with the MIB, DVSA or DVLA.
